Jatiluwih is a rice terraces which has an area of 636 hectares, and just like others Balinese traditional rice field, Jatiluwih is also still use “subak”, a Balinese traditional irrigation. Thanks to its uniqueness and peculiarity, Jatiluwih became one of the world cultural heritages which are protected by UNESCO.
The name of Jatiluwih cames from two words “Jati” which means really, truly simply or the equivalent and “Luwih” means beautiful, good, or the equivalent. Therefore Jatiluwih means “simply beautiful”. In addition to the beautiful panorama of rice terraces, Jatiluwih also have an advantage in historical and cultural riches which has a quite high value. Historically, there are two historical temples in Jatiluwih, there are Petali temple (its existence linked with Ida Dalem Waturenggong from Gelgel kingdom on XV-XVI century) and Puncak Rsi temple.
In fact, Petali temple has very special position in religious life of Jatiluwih community. It is because this temple is believed as a manifestation of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa powers that reflected through agricultural. Because of its singularity, then it is not surprising if there are many of unique cultural attractions in this temple, it include Wali Pendet dance which is held every ceremony of Petayon and Patirtaan, both of these attractions held every Wednesday Kliwon Ugu.
